A Purr-fect Valentine!

Current Mood: All lovey-dovey and stuff.

This week Evie and Mom worked together (with just a few squabbles over the design layout) to make Valentine’s Day greetings for her kindergarten class.

Through the collaboration, I’ve learned that our child is not into the holiday at all...And I’m pretty sure it’s because you have to give away candy rather than horde it for yourself. Somehow, she thinks the holiday is associated with Jesus, too. Apparently Valentine's Day is about "giving stuff to people because baby Jesus is watching." I thought this was so hilarious, I couldn't bring myself to correct her. I mean, baby Jesus probably liked candy, too. And hey, a giving spirit is a giving spirit, right?

Anyway, I’m hoping that once Evie realizes that for every card you give out, you get another one back, it’ll all turn out ok. For now, she’s still a bit skeptical:

“Be my Valentine! Wait...do you have any candy?”

Current mood: Shivery in me timbers!

By now you’ve realized cats hold a special place in our family, so In honor of the Kitten Bowl V, we’re bringing out the big guns. Well, boats that is.

I’m going on an adventure to cat island with Captain Cat and his crew. When we get there, all the cats will have their own homes so they don’t have to live on the streets like the dogs in Lady and the Tramp.

the long and short of it - read original short stories on evie's virtual bookshelf

Current mood: Feeling Bookish - with a side of sass.

“Books encourage you to learn new things and to get new ideas for things to draw.”

I know about you all, but weekends seem to move pretty fast at our house. So fast, in fact, that we COMPLETELY FORGOT to send out last week’s update. So, hooray for you, this week you get a second serving of Evie’s artistic endeavors!

Lately, Evie’s been super into writing, illustrating, and binding her own books. It’s been a great chance for her to practice spelling, sight words (we’re almost on the second grade list - whoa), and weaving a narrative thread. Hilarity, with a hint of nonsense, generally ensues. Visit the Short Stories Bookshelf to view current selections.

SHORT STORIES

Rib tickling original tales

Walking Canes and Hot Llamas

Current Mood: Cold, but thinking hot!

Sometimes I like to tell stories just to see people laugh.

Last week we had pretty strange weather around here. Rain followed by rapidly dropping temps lead to treacherous, icy conditions. And unfortunately, Dad found out about that firsthand (or hip as the case may be), falling in the gym's un-salted parking lot. Bruised and limping, he arrived home a mess!

Evie's take on the situation?

"Well, we'll just have to buy you a cane from the old grandpa store."

Me: "Where is that store?"

Evie: "It's next to the nail salon, Mom."

Me: "What else besides canes do they sell at the old grandpa store?"

Evie: "Fake moles, of course."

Apparently, old grandpas can't get enough of canes, fake moles or nail salons these days.

This story really has nothing to do with this week's featured picture, other than it might warm you up! Plus, it features talking llamas hanging in the desert, so there's that.

A Grade Card, A Commission, and John Cena?!

"When I make artwork, I feel happy!"

Current Mood : Emotional

What in the world was Evie up to this week?!

It certainly was a busy one in our household. The same day Evie brought home an outstanding grade card, we received a message for her very first art commission!

In the art world, when someone wants a specific work created just for them, it's called a commission. Sometimes the person gives direction on the imagery or colors, but most often, they give the artist creative freedom to develop a unique and inspired vision.

Our newest patron (someone who supports the artist) asked for an original piece created in the same vein as 'Princess Cat'. So, Evie got to work on 'Princess Cat And Friends' this morning. Check out the side by side comparison of the finished works below:

And what about John Cena? Well, you'll just have to see THAT connection for yourself:

Welcome Friends!

Current mood: Excited!

I'm happy about my website because other children can decide if they like it and share it with their parents.

Several months ago, Evie visited her first gallery opening. She was mesmerized by the art on the walls, asking her Dad, 'When can I have my art on display'? At only five years old, Evie clearly has big aspirations! Thus, eviepizzacat.com was born. The site features original artwork and stories meant to make you smile (and hopefully inspire your own creativity, too).

Each week, we will upload artwork, write a post, and share with the world. We hope you enjoy following Evie's artistic journey (with a few laughs along the way)!

What's in a name?

As you get to know Evie, you'll quickly realize she LOVES cats. And pizza. Combining her name with two of her most loved things (at least at the moment) seemed like a logical site title - all completely her decision.

And the logo?

Created by Evie (with a little help from Mom to add the tagline).
